What should you check before making your choice?
The permitted roof load specifies how much weight may be carried on the vehicle roof while driving. This includes the weight of the rooftop tent, the roof rack and any additional accessories mounted on the roof.
You can find information about the permitted roof load in your vehicle’s owner’s manual or in the technical documentation provided by the vehicle manufacturer. The Rooftop Tent Finder is intended as a guide only and does not constitute a guarantee of compatibility. Before purchasing or installing a rooftop tent, always check the latest specifications provided by your vehicle and roof rack manufacturers.
A rooftop tent is mounted on crossbars, not directly onto the vehicle roof. The roof rack system must be compatible with your vehicle and rated to support the weight of the rooftop tent.

Depending on the vehicle, the roof type, mounting points and possible crossbar spacing may vary. Vehicles with roof rails, fixed mounting points or panoramic roofs also require a suitable roof rack system.
The Rooftop Tent Finder is therefore intended as a pre-selection tool and does not replace a technical installation check.
The weight of the rooftop tent itself can influence which models are suitable for your vehicle. This is especially important for vehicles with a lower permitted roof load, where you should carefully compare the weight of the tent and the roof rack.

Our vehicle database is regularly updated. If your model isn’t listed, this doesn’t necessarily mean that a rooftop tent cannot be installed.

No. The Rooftop Tent Finder is intended as a pre-selection tool. Before installation, you must also check the specifications provided by the vehicle manufacturer, the roof rack manufacturer and the technical specifications of the rooftop tent.
You can usually find the permitted roof load in your vehicle’s owner’s manual or in the technical documentation provided by the vehicle manufacturer. It is often not listed in the vehicle registration document.
You need a crossbar system that is compatible with your vehicle and rated for the required load. Not every roof rack is automatically suitable for mounting a rooftop tent.
It depends on the vehicle model and the available roof rack system. The vehicle and roof rack manufacturers’ specifications are what matter.
Your vehicle may not yet be listed in our database, or we may need additional information to determine compatibility. Our team will be happy to check your vehicle individually.
For the compatibility check, we usually need the vehicle manufacturer, model, year, roof type and – if known – the permitted roof load and details of the existing roof rack system.
